TOP 50 JUNIOR-COLLEGE TEAMS, 2009

13. St. Petersburg (Fla.)

2008 Record: 37-20.

Team Capsule:
Sophomore RHP Donny Albro (5-1, 2.31) is the lone pitcher of note returning from a year ago, but the Titans have substantially upgraded their pitching staff by bringing in freshman RHP Ryan Weber, who could be the best amateur pitcher in Florida this spring, and sophomore RHPs Connor Hoehn, a transfer from Alabama; Michael Martinez, a transfer from Eastern Kentucky, and Jack Wagoner, a transfer from Sacred Heart. Wagoner has been clocked up to 94, Hoehn to 92. Ex-Seton Hall C Mike Blanke, ex-Florida Southern 3B Brooks Beisner and ex-Miami-Dade CC OF Niko Navarro, who hit .412-3-37 a year ago, are also significant newcomers.

Top Prospect:
Ryan Weber, rhp. A 12th-round pick in last year’s draft who originally committed to the University of Florida, Weber lacks the big fastball desired in a premium prospect and isn’t overly projectable, but his sinker/slider combo and pinpoint control have made him a proven winner at all levels—notably for Team USA in international competition.

Players, PG Crosschecker Top 250 Prospects:
No. 2 Ryan Weber, rhp; No. 35 Connor Hoehn, rhp; No. 83 Jack Wagoner, rhp; No. 118 Mike Blanke, c; No. 202 Ryan Kennedy, lhp.

Opening Game, 2009:
Jan. 30 at Central Florida CC.
