PGCROSSCHECKER COLLEGE TEAM SCOUTING REPORT

67. WASHINGTON STATE (36-23, did not qualify for NCAA post-season play).

Conference/Projected Finish: Pacific-10/7th (10-14, 8th in 2006).

Coach: Donnie Marbut (57-60, 2 years).

First Game: Feb. 16 at Cal State Northridge.

OVERVIEW: WSU proved a year ago that it’s no longer the doormat of the Pac-10 Conference and should continue its upward climb this season. Sophomore OF-RHP Jared Prince (.401-9-58; 6-2, 4.53) is one of the best two-way players in college baseball and will play right field for the Cougars when not pitching. Junior 1B Jimmy Murphy (.333-8-46), sophomore 2B Travis Coulter (.345-2-27) and senior 3B Jeff Miller (.285-7-35) also are returning regulars, while senior RHPs Wayne Daman (6-4, 4.50) and Nick Ison (4-1, 3.79) will join Prince in the rotation.

TOP PROSPECT/SOPHOMORE: Jared Prince, of-rhp. Draft-eligible as a sophomore, Prince has attracted legitimate interest as both a hitter and pitcher. He has three plus tools: speed, arm strength and hitting ability.

TOP FRESHMAN: Cody Bartlett, ss. TOP JUNIOR: Jimmy Murphy, 1b. TOP SENIOR: Jeff Miller, 3b.
