PGCROSSCHECKER COLLEGE TEAM SCOUTING REPORT

85. MIAMI, Ohio (33-25, did not qualify for NCAA post-season play).

Conference/Projected Finish: Mid-American/3rd (17-10, 5th in 2006).

Coach: Dan Simonds (33-25, 1 year).

First Game: Feb. 17 at Western Kentucky .

OVERVIEW: The RedHawks lost three pitchers in the first 10 rounds of last year’s draft, but pitching remains the team’s strength. Junior RHPs John Ely (8-2, 3.57) and Connor Graham (3-2, 4.70), both of whom should be drafted in the top five rounds, will be the top two starters. Eight of Miami’s top 10 hitters return, including senior OF Ryne Robinson (.253-2-20), whose 6.5 second speed in the 60 and record-breaking accomplishments on the football field makes him a possible NFL draft pick.

TOP PROSPECT/JUNIOR: Connor Graham, rhp. Scouts believe the 6-foot-6 Graham’s stuff and temperament make him better suited to close, but for now he’ll work out of the rotation. He has two above-average offerings in a 93-95 mph fastball and 82-83 hard slider.

TOP FRESHMAN: Reese Asbury, rhp. TOP SOPHOMORE: Jordan Petraitis, 3b. TOP SENIOR: Jeff Carroll, 1b.
