SOPHOMORE CLASS: Top 10 Righthanders

While San Diego State’s Stephen Strasburg, Missouri’s Kyle Gibson and North Carolina’s Alex White all have the credentials to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft, next year’s crop of college righthanders extends well beyond the Big Three.

Several other players from that demographic could also work their way squarely into the first round, making the position the strongest and deepest in next year’s draft class—though that draft remains 14 months away. All the players on the accompanying list of righthanders are candidates to go in the first round—as are highly-regarded Baylor righthander Kendal Volz and Seton Hall righthander Sean Black, who have first-round potential but haven’t pitched consistently to that level this season.

Based on performance to date, here’s how we see the top 10 righthanded pitchers in the 2008 sophomore class:
